The “OKINAWA SUITS” project, which creates fashion suits from vintage Kariyushi wear, held a walking live performance and talk show on the 23rd at San-A Urasoe West Coast Parco City in Urasoe City, Okinawa Prefecture. The event featured Shingo Maekawa, vocalist of the Okinawan rock band Kariyushi 58, and Kenichiro Koyama, owner of Yanbaru Hostel.
Maekawa, wearing an Okinawa Suit, played guitar while walking through the mall, performing songs like “Denjōgiku” and “Amma.” People who heard the music rushed over, filming videos with their smartphones and clapping along. During the talk show, Maekawa shared audience reactions from his nationwide tour wearing the Okinawa Suit. Koyama spoke about the creation process and his thoughts behind the suits.
A 44-year-old man who watched the live performance and talk show with his family said happily, “I love Kariyushi 58 and own their albums, so I’m glad I got to see them.”
