January 11, 2022 Kenichiro Koyama Creative Produce Office is pleased to announce the release of the new collection “OKINAWA SUITS TUXEDO” from OKINAWA SUITS, created using kariginu fabric that was destined for disposal.

On May 30, 2021 (Zero Waste Day), “OKINAWA SUITS” made from discarded Kariyushi Wear scheduled for disposal by the company was released. Within about six months, two temporary stores opened within the prefecture, and vigorous event activities were held at commercial facilities and various locations. Particularly noteworthy events included a stage performance at Rycom Aeon Mall featuring 17 groups showcasing Okinawan culture through song, dance, folk songs, and Eisa, and the first-ever walking live event at Okinawa Urasoe Parco City, planned and executed with Shingo Maekawa of the Okinawan band Kariyushi 58. Through calls for donations at stores and events, they have collected over 3,000 pieces of discarded Kariyushi wear and delivered over 100 suits to customers. Amidst this, requests like “We want to wear OKINAWA SUITS for weddings or photo shoots” began to gather. This inspired the concept of creating something more “suitable for celebratory occasions,” leading to the release of the “OKINAWA SUITS TUXEDO.”
Unlike the OKINAWA SUITS made from discarded kariyushi wear, the OKINAWA SUITS TUXEDO uses unused, new fabric sourced from local Okinawan fabric stores. This ensures the elegant, refined, and sophisticated design required for a tuxedo. While maintaining the SDGs-aligned concept, Okinawan identity is preserved by selecting fabrics featuring Okinawa’s unique botanical and minsa patterns. Furthermore, starting in 2022, the long-planned shift to in-prefecture manufacturing became possible, enabling full custom, easy order, and pattern order options. Naturally, meticulous sizing tailored to the individual significantly enhances both visual appeal and comfort. However, the brand also places great importance on meeting customer requests while adhering to the defined design parameters of a tuxedo and maintaining its formal elegance. While SDGs are becoming a global standard, the brand’s activities reveal an underlying message: never forget the joy of fashion and style.

By blending Okinawan tradition with the sensibilities and creativity of fashion, it seeks to create a new culture and revitalize the entire Okinawa Prefecture.
